Rentle provides all-in-one digital infrastructure for consumer rental companies and streamlines the operation of its customers both online and in-store. Below is our recent interview with Tuomo Laine, Managing Director and Co-founder of Rentle:

Q: For those who have never heard about your company, tell us something more?

A: We believe that access-based business models are in a critical role when considering the sustainable consumption of durable goods such as sports equipment, tools, clothing, and so on. Currently, the main providers of sustainable consumption such as rental operators need better digital infrastructure to keep up with modern consumer needs. We help these providers to start and build their online business while at the same time automating some of their existing in-store operations. We see that our role is to provide groundbreaking software for the industry – to power sustainability on a global scale.

Q: Rentle helps businesses accomplish their goals, what is your core competence?

A: We put a lot of effort into the design and user-centric approach. Sometimes we even say that “Our customers don’t think about our software – and we love it.” This highlights the fact that we aim to make Rentle a rental software that is intuitive and makes your day-to-day a breeze. So easy that you don’t even remember that there is a software helping you. This is the way that our customers can focus on great customer service and in the core why they became rental operators in the first place.

Q: Your customer base – is it within specific industries at the moment?

A: Our solution fits anyone who is renting durable goods or providing activities to consumers. Currently, the bulk of our customers come from the sports equipment and outdoors industry, but we also have customers from AV equipment and tool rentals. If you are in the business of renting and providing great experiences to consumers – you most likely can solve a lot of jobs with Rentle.

Q: What’s your revenue model?

A: We offer both free and paid plans. Rentle Lite is our forever free plan to get your online rentals started. It is lightweight and you can get started in minutes. Rentle Core is our all-in-one plan that handles the needs of established businesses with both online and walk-in customers. It is used for example by the biggest ski resorts in the Nordics. We’ve taken seasonality into account in our billing models – so Rentle Core can be paid either via commission or via fixed annual deal. This way even the most advanced features are accessible for companies that cannot afford annual investments in software.

Q: How are you funded?

A: We are backed by the most prominent investors in the Nordics, and of course, as a growing company, we fund ourselves via revenue.

Q: What can we expect from Rentle in the next six months? What are your plans?

A: A lot. We are constantly pushing out both small and large improvements. The best way to stay tuned on our progress is of course to subscribe to our blog. As a teaser, we could mention that we are making it even easier for a rental business to serve their customers even during rentals – not only before and after the experience start. More on that in our blog then.
