The founders of Piersica have extensive experience in the multinational OEM industry for solid battery development such as Toyota and Great Wall Motor/SVOLT (largest SUV OEM in China) as well as Avery Dennison. Below is our recent interview with Dr. Claudiu Bucur, the Founder of Piersica:
Q: Could you provide our readers with a brief introduction to Piersica?
A: Piersica means “peach” in Romanian. We are a lithium ion battery technology company run by industry and academic R&D leaders. Our unique strategy and know-how in the field of solid state batteries enable us to disrupt and rapidly advance the evolution of rechargeable batteries at a pace far more rapid than traditional battery companies.
Q: What are the key benefits of using your technology?
A: Solid state technology promise safe batteries which do not burn and have higher energy density that commodity Li-ion. Piersica uses its experience in the multinational OEMs to accelerate its core technologies into prototypes with 585 Wh/kg energy density. Piersica has a proprietary fast charging, high capacity lithium metal based 3D anode and an ultra-thin solid polymer composite separator with super high conductivity at freezing temperatures. Our technical strategy and materials has a wide range of commercial applications with deep reaches.
Q: Who would be your ideal customer and why?
A: Our initial customers will be cell suppliers – we will license our anode/separator cell components. Early adopters will be space and military companies. Then as we improve the cycle life of our cells – we will sell to wearables and personal electronics companies. Finally, as mature cells are able to fast charge we will be able to sell to the EV companies.
Q: You’ve recently raised your new funding round; can you tell us something more?
A: We are in the middle of raising our seed funds. We had a lot of interest from capital venture groups as well as angels and micro VC groups.
Q: What can we expect from Piersica in next six months?
A: The next 6 months will establish our first JD with supplier partners and first licensing agreements.
