Below is our recent interview with Peter Thorpe, the Founder of FireAvert:
Q: Could you provide our readers with a brief introduction to FireAvert?
A: FireAvert is a simple life-saving technology that anyone can install! You simply plug the FireAvert into the stove, and FireAvert syncs to the sound of your smoke alarm. The next time you leave the stove on and the smoke alarms sound FireAvert will turn off the stove before there is a fire. FireAvert prevents fires from ever starting.
Q: How did you get the idea for FireAvert? Why do we need such a product?
A: I have worked as a career firefighter for 13 years. It was while working as a firefighter that I had the idea for FireAvert. After responding to so many unattended cooking fires the idea came to me, “Why can’t the smoke alarm turn off the stove?” 18 months later we were selling FireAverts all across the country and into Canada.
Q: Why do you need FireAvert?
A: In the US every 4.5 minutes a fire department responds to a cooking fire. It’s the #1 cause of house fires in the world. FireAvert is the solution to mitigate this risk.
Q: How exactly does it work? Is it hard to install?
A: FireAvert plugs into your electric or gas stove and syncs to the sound of your smoke alarm. FireAvert is always listening for your smoke alarm to sound. Once FireAvert hears your smoke alarm it checks to see if the stove is on. If the stove is on then it simply cuts power preventing a stove fire from starting. To reset the FireAvert you simply flip the stove breaker off and then back on again.
Q: Can you give us insights into your products?
A: All our products are ETL certified. Our technology works on all electric and gas stoves. We also will be launching a new product each year.
Q: What are your plans for the future?
A: Right now we are growing about 50% each year. Next year in 2020 we launch a FireAvert for new construction. Instead of FireAvert needing to be plugged in. It will be built into the wall during construction. In 2021 we launch the FireAvert Pro that will enable our products to work with smart home automation including your smart phone.
