Below is our recent interview with Amy Hedrick, CEO & Co-Founder at Cleanbox Technology:

Q: For those who haven’t heard of it, what is the best way to describe Cleanbox Technology?

A: Cleanbox is a premium hygienic and eco-friendly brand that provides medical grade hardware solutions for the decontamination and drying of virtual & augmented reality headsets, headphones and other mass-use hardware. Our products are designed with commercial traffic in mind and built for space economies and multi-functionality. This means that in addition to medical grade decontamination, our products have locking, charging and storage functionality.

My co-founder, David Georgeson and I both come from content and experience development backgrounds and understand that premium end user offerings are critical to repeat engagement…which is of course, important for revenue growth.

Q: How Cleanbox works? Could you explain in details?

A: We use certified, high-powered UVC (medical grade) lights, with a patented design that eradicates 99,99% of bacteria, virus and fungi–in 60 seconds–no matter how many headsets you’re treating at once. Our high-powered, directed-air system dries the headsets at the same time. We also provide a hydrophobic nanotechnology coating for the textiles on your HMDs, which helps prevent sweat and other moisture from getting into the headsets, and combined with the decontamination, prevents the bacteria build up that causes odors. Cleanbox is safe for lenses and plastics, and uses no heat, liquid or toxins in the decontamination process.

Q: What types of products do you provide to your clients?

A: We have four commercial products on the market with clients in 12 countries. Our CX1 is mobile and cleans one HMD at once. Our CX2 cleans two at once, the CX4 cleans four and the CX6 cleans six. We remain responsive to the market and have other innovative product in the pipeline.

Q: What makes you stand out from your competition?

A: Competitive products are the various methods people use to clean headsets, including replaceable foam inserts, alcohol wipes, and disposable covers. All of these methods create waste, are not cost effective, and don’t properly disinfect and kill bacteria. Cleanbox is the one product on the market that definitively addresses cleaning, drying, and odors—and does so in an environmentally friendly way.

Q: What are some of the main objectives for Cleanbox Technology going into 2020 and how do you plan to achieve them?

A: Cleanbox is focused on three major business verticals: enterprise, healthcare/education and entertainment. Because our products are harware agnostic, we have clients across 15 different business verticals, which is a fantastic growth opportunity for us. We are partnering with larger corporations and integrating our products into turnkey solutions across our primary verticals. Because our core technology is modular, we are able to design our product into other hardware, which is useful for large scale custom projects.

I also sit on healthcare and enterprise advisory committees with VRAR Association, AIXR and IVRHA.org, associations of which Cleanbox is a member. Cleanbox continues to participate in a number of exhibits.
