Below is a recent interview with Dr. Jans Aasman, CEO at Franz Inc.:
Q: Could you provide our readers with a brief introduction to your company?
A: Franz Inc. is an early innovator in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and leading supplier of Graph Database technology with expert knowledge in developing and deploying Semantic Layers for Enterprise Knowledge Graph and Data Fabric solutions.
Franz’s AllegroGraph platform enables businesses to extract sophisticated decision insights and predictive analytics from highly complex, distributed data that cannot be uncovered with conventional databases. Unlike traditional relational databases or other NoSQL databases, AllegroGraph employs Semantic Graph Technologies that process data with contextual and conceptual intelligence.
AllegroGraph is utilized by dozens of the top Fortune 500 companies worldwide.
Q: What are the advantages of a semantic layer in your data infrastructure?
A: A semantic layer is an intermediate layer in an Enterprise’s data infrastructure that sits between the data sources and the applications that use the data. It ascribes business meaning to data – via metadata – so end users can better understand their data. A semantic layer provides a number of advantages in terms of Enterprise-wide data management. Some specific advantages of a semantic layer include: improved data integration, enhanced data accessibility, improved data governance, enhanced data quality, and enhanced data security.

Q: Can you give us more insights into your offering?
A: AllegroGraph’s W3C standards based Semantic Technology has a huge advantage when it comes to implementing a semantic layer. In particular, AllegroGraph is well-suited for representing complex, interconnected data relationships, and it can provide a high level of flexibility and adaptability when it comes to working with different data sources and structures. Standards based Semantic Technology can be a particularly useful choice for organizations that need to integrate and work with large volumes of complex data.
Q: What can we expect from your company in the near future? What are your plans?
A: The advance of Quantum Computing has the promise of reshaping artificial intelligence (AI) as it’s known and deployed today. This development is drastically expanding AI’s enterprise and commercial outreach, perhaps even getting closer to artificial general intelligence.
Quantum computing and our world of Semantic Technology, Knowledge Graphs, Neural Network Computing are all coming together to solve hard and complex problems. We are excited about the opportunities we see with Semantic/Graph Technology as the way forward in AI and Quantum Computing

Q: What is the best thing about your company that people might not know about?
A: Well, perhaps not “the best thing” but we think it is super cool that all the complex scheduling of the James Webb Space Telescope and the Hubble Space Telescope is done using Franz’s underlying technology. Every time we see one of those amazing images from NASA we are always proud to be part of the mission.
