Diligent - Robot Moxi

The Pandemic’s Impact on Nursing

The global pandemic left an indelible mark on various professions, but nursing was among the hardest hit. Overflowing hospitals meant that healthcare professionals had to endure grueling shifts, often jeopardizing their own well-being. This challenging backdrop paved the way for the introduction of Diligent’s Moxi, a robot designed to assist overburdened healthcare staff. As Andrea Thomaz, Co-Founder and CEO of Diligent, remarked, Moxi seamlessly integrated into the healthcare environment during the pandemic’s peaks.

Moxi’s Growing Presence in Hospitals

Post the initial pandemic wave, the demand for Moxi surged. Hospitals, grappling with staff shortages and burnout, began to see the potential of this robotic assistant. By the end of this year, Diligent anticipates having over 100 Moxi units operating across 22 U.S. hospital systems. If you’ve been to a hospital during these trying times, there’s a good chance you’ve spotted a Moxi unit transporting supplies or navigating elevators.

A Significant Financial Boost for Expansion

Diligent recently announced a substantial $25 million funding round led by Canaan, with contributions from True Ventures, DNX Ventures, Next Coast, and Northwestern Medicine Innovation. This investment aims to amplify production, research, and development, allowing Diligent to triple its U.S. footprint. Thomaz highlighted that while they plan to onboard new health systems, there’s also a growing demand to introduce Moxi to more facilities within their existing networks.

Envisioning a Bright Future

Diligent’s aspirations go beyond just being a robotics firm. They see themselves as robot specialists, striving to enhance workflows for humans. Thomaz envisions a future with diversified hardware solutions, integrations with electronic medical records, and intelligent applications that can elevate care standards in hospitals. Furthermore, the company is delving into generative AI for natural language controls, indicating a promising direction for their technological advancements.

In conclusion, Diligent’s Moxi is not just a testament to the power of robotics in healthcare but also a beacon of hope for overworked healthcare professionals. With significant investments and a clear vision, the company is poised to redefine the future of healthcare assistance.
