Below is our recent interview with Matt Hatton, the founding partner at Transforma Insights:
Q: Matt can you tell us something more about Transforma Insights and your cor competence?
A: Transforma Insights is a leading technology research advisory firm focused on the world of IoT, AI and Digital Transformation (DX). The company was founded by Jim Morrish me, we previously founded Machina Research, which was acquired by Gartner in 2016.
Q: Any highlights on your recent announcement?
A: The recent announcement related to the publication of our Communications Service Provider IoT Peer Benchmarking report, which is available as part of our advisory service. That report analyses the relative strengths of 12 leading providers of global IoT connectivity (Aeris Communications, AT&T, Deutsche Telekom, KORE, KPN, Orange, Tele2, Telefónica, Telenor, Telia, Verizon and Vodafone) in areas such as networks, platforms, vertical solutions and commercial strategy. The key highlight was that Communications Service Providers need to adapt their strategies to reflect the increasing price pressure which is pushing connectivity revenue towards $1 per year. In order to do that they need to become what we term ‘Hyperscale IoT Connectivity Providers’, supporting the necessary suite of scalable technologies and capabilities necessary to profitably address the growing cellular IoT market opportunity. Vodafone is, today, the best positioned company to do that. The other big opportunity for CSPs is in vertical solutions and consulting/systems integration. Deutsche Telekom and Orange Business Services score well on those metrics.

A: Our main offering is our advisory service, which is a multi-client service which provides technology vendors and adopters with market intelligence in the form of forecasts, databases, and reports on technical and commercial best practice across IoT, AI and other aspects of Digital Transformation. We also provide client-specific consulting and custom research, ranging from in-depth strategy reviews to marketing support with white papers and webinars.
Q: What can we expect from your company in next 6 months? What are your plans?
A: We will continue to publish cutting edge market research on IoT, AI and Digital Transformation. Specifically in the next few months we will release our global AI/machine learning forecasts, a detailed market assessment of the IoT MVNOs space, an industrial digital transformation benchmarking report, and a report on satellite IoT, and much more.

Q: What is the best thing about your company that people might not know about?
A: We were pretty much born during lockdown. Officially we got started in November 2019 and we had a couple of months before the pandemic hit. It meant we had to completely adapt how we expected the business to develop. It’s all gone very well, but we do miss face-to-face interaction. We’re very much looking forward to getting back out on the road, to conferences and to visit clients.
