Below is our recent interview with Logan Tanner, Creative Director at Hypercraft:

Q: Could you provide our readers with a brief introduction to your company?

A: Our founders, Jake Hawksworth and Jon Miller, saw that there were no complete EV drive systems available to builders, creatives, and small manufacturers who might want the option to use an EV drive system instead of, (or in addition) to internal combustion engines in their products and projects. To create these EV drive systems, they would have to invest enormous amounts of capital and resources to research and develop an EV system for their needs—which, for most small companies, is just not practical. So Hypercraft was founded, as a company dedicated to making electric propulsion available to small businesses. By creating complete, turn-key electric drive systems with all the components needed to get up and running with EV, Hypercraft solves the complexity and access problem for companies that simply didn’t have a choice before. Hypercraft’s systems can be scaled from 10HP on the low end, all the way up to 2,000HP on the high end. And since each system is created to suit the application and requirements that the builder provides, we can configure different amounts of power and range depending on need.

Q: Any highlights on your recent announcement?

A: A lot has been happening at Hypercraft over the past few months. We had an really successful showing at the 2021 SEMA Show, with the announcement of our all-electric Geiser Brothers desert race truck, which we plan to run in the Unlimited Class at races like Baja 1000 and Mint 400 next year.

We are also supporting Ultra4 and King of the Hammers with an all-electric UTV spec class for the King of Hammers race.

On top of that we’re working with one of the nation’s top airboat manufacturers to deliver the world’s first all-electric airboat.

We’ve teamed up with Kindig-It Designs to provide EV drive systems for some of their custom hot rod creations.

We’re working with Sierra Cars to create an all-electric drive system for their single seat, center cockpit, high-performance recreation vehicles.

And all this is just the start.

Between our visits to SEMA Show, Velocity Invitational, and PRI Show over the past few months, it has become overwhelmingly clear that of our founders’ vision was right on — so many builders are ready and excited for the kind of performance EV can provide. And we’re working around the clock to deliver EV drive systems to current and future customers.

Q: Can you give us more insights into your offering?

A: What we offer are complete, turn-key electric drive systems for projects of almost any size and manufacturing scale — which is a unique concept in the market right now. Many great companies will sell you individual components such as, an electric motor, power inverters, a vehicle control unit, batteries, etc. But until now, you had to piece that system together from those various parts and manufacturers to create a complete system for your project. Then the toughest part, hiring a team of mechanical, electrical and software engineers to make the entire system work together. Hypercraft makes the whole process much, much simpler. Customers just tell us what kind of vehicle they are building, the power they want, and what kind of range they need. With that info, we can work with them to put together a complete system that they can then put into their vehicle.

The term “EV crate motor” gets thrown around a lot, and it’s a great way for car people to wrap their heads around the concept of EV propulsion — but the fact of the matter is, a complete EV drive system requires much more than just an EV motor. And that’s where Hypercraft’s expertise comes into play, because we can source the right EV motor, the right inverters and vehicle control units to drive it, program the software to make it all work together, and then assemble the right batteries with the right chemistries to power it. And then we ship all that right to your door. The full and complete system.

Q: What can we expect from your company in next 6 months? What are your plans?

A: In the next six months, prepare to see all the projects listed above come to fruition. Expect to see the EV airboat, EV Kindig hotrods, some fleet trucks converted to EV, an electric Sierra Cars on track, Hypercraft-powered UTVs running their own EV class at King of the Hammers, and so much more.

The public’s excitement for EV power is unprecedented right now — even greater than we anticipated — and we’ve just begun to scratch the surface of what’s possible. In six months you’ll be hearing about things ‘Powered by Hypercraft’ that we never could have imagined right now as we roll into 2022.

Q: What is the best thing about your company that people might not know about?

A: The best thing about our company is our genuine passion for performance and creativity. The world already knows how EV can benefit the environment, but that’s not our “why”. We want show the world the many performance benefits EV technology has over internal combustion. As battery technology advances (and it’s advancing very, very quickly) the advantages of EV will become even more undeniable. If you like to go fast and have fun, EV is the answer thanks to mind-blowing torque, infinite tunability, and the ability to but smiles the faces of every performance enthusiast on the planet. We truly believe that, and it goes into everything we do.
