SmartCool Systems Inc. is a clean technology company on a mission to help customers reduce energy consumption and cut operating and management costs in their facilities. Energy savings are achieved using compressor optimization strategies through their advanced energy efficiency retrofit products ECO3 and ESM. Below is our interview with Ted Konyi, the Founder and CEO at SmartCool Systems Inc.:
Q: Ted, could you provide our readers with a brief introduction to SmartCool?
A: Smartcool has proprietary software based control algorithms that optimize compressor efficiency as applied in refrigeration, air conditioning and heat pump systems.
Q: You’ve recently announced sustainable technology and energy partnership with Wates Group; could you tell us something more?
A: We were invited to participate in an annual “Green Dragon’s Den” that Wates Group holds to review energy efficiency technologies. We were awarded with being part of the current group of technologies that Wates Group will now start introducing to their clients.
Q: Can you give us more insights into your technology?
A: The technology provides dynamic control of compressor run cycles maximizing efficiency not inherently possible in most on/off control strategies. Our system monitors run signal as a proxy for ambient conditions. ie: the longer the run signal is issued by the thermostat, the higher the ambient temperature or the more people in the room. Compressors do not run at equal efficiency during the entire run cycle due to the varying densities of the refrigerant….dependant on its temperature. Compressors are inherently more efficient at the beginning of a run cycle then at the end. Smartcool interrupts the run cycle dynamically to only use the most efficient portion of the cycle.
Q: What geographic markets are you focusing on currently?
A: We are currently active in the UK, the Middle East and the North American market place.
Q: What are your plans for next six months?
A: We are focused on a more direct selling strategy to large users of cooling such as the food industry cold chain and the hospitality industry.
