Below is our recent interview with Joe Braidwood, Co-Founder and COO at Scener:

Q: For those who have never heard of it, how would you describe Scener?

A: Scener is a platform delivering the highest-quality, shared viewing experience of premium entertainment. From groups of friends to virtual theaters of up to a million, Scener brings people a feeling of togetherness at a time when we’re all craving it the most. Scener was the first to introduce the live video chat experience over synchronized streaming content and now supports over 10 of the major streaming services, while also respecting copyright.

Q: Tell us something more about your virtual movie theater?

A: Scener’s virtual theater is a destination for users to create, host or join watch parties across multiple services and in a variety of modes. Creators can set up a profile at Scener.com to host public or private watch parties. A virtual destination for friends and fans to follow each other and join watch parties, Scener’s virtual theaters can hold up to one million viewers with live video chat and interactive messaging features over synchronized playback of the streaming content.

We’re particularly excited by the potential of Scener to facilitate large co-watching events with hosts on camera, as seen by Rifftrax’s use of the platform.

Q: What are the key benefits of using Scener?

A: Scener delivers the highest quality co-watching experience, which is representative of the hard work and dedication our small, yet incredibly scrappy startup team has poured into the technology and vision.

We’ve pioneered an entertainment experience that is both interactive and engaging for all users, all while providing a seamless co-watching experience. Enabling live video chat and messaging features over synchronized playback of the streaming content has been groundbreaking for so many of our users and a milestone we’re incredibly proud of.

Scener is also agnostic across over 10 of the major streaming services, including Netflix, HBO Max, Disney Plus, Hulu, Prime Video, Funimation, Vimeo, YouTube, Alamo On Demand and Hotstar. This brings viewers more content choice and a better discovery experience than opting for co-watching experiences that are built into individual streaming services.

Q: You’ve recently raised your new funding round; can you tell us something more?

A: Scener will use the funding to accelerate product development for our social platform and supercharge our events and community of watch party hosts, with the aim of creating a nightly destination for collective entertainment viewing. For example, throughout October we are hosting a virtual horror festival dubbed Stream & Scream.

Our social platform introduces an all-new way for creators to host virtual theaters that can hold up to 1 million audience viewers, allowing them to build their audiences and unite enthusiasts over their shared passions for streaming TV and movie content. We’re continuing to partner across virtual event programming and watch parties, and are excited to bring co-watching and the virtual movie experience into the living room soon.
