Below is our interview with Nick Damoulakis, CEO & Co-Founder of Orases, who was recently recognized by Great Place To Work for outstanding company culture and employee experience.

Q: Nick, what is your company mission?

A: When was the last time you visited a website or filled out a form online and were blown away by how user-friendly the site was or how intuitive the process was? You probably don’t think of software as the piece of the puzzle that makes your life easier, but that’s what we work on every day.

We’ve made it our mission to provide creative and innovative solutions to everyday problems. Orases builds custom software to help businesses and organizations reach their vision, improve efficiency, and use technology to make the world a better place.

Q: What sets you apart from other software development companies?

A: Customer service is everything to us! The Orases team is committed to customer satisfaction. We work to ensure our clients are completely satisfied and always in the loop on how their project is going.

Our clients are incorporated into the collaborative process and have complete knowledge of anything happening during the project, and as product owner, they get consistent updates on the development process. It is this high level of transparency that makes us the trusted software development company for large organizations such as NPR and the NFL Foundation. For tech companies, transparency equals honesty. We have many successful partnerships and projects because of our company wide commitment to honesty and accountability.

Q: Any highlights from being recognized as a “Great Place to Work”?

A: We really pride ourselves on being a great place to work, so awards like this are proof we are getting it right. Admittedly that wasn’t always the case, and we have been rebuilding our culture for a few years now. Our Leadership Team has been instrumental in bringing about changes to our work flow process, our benefits package, our work from home program, and many other tweaks that have been made to contribute to a very satisfied Orases team.

Q: What can we expect from your company in the next 6 months? What are your plans?

A: Orases is collaborating with major retailers and manufacturers to create strategic shopper marketing programs. We want to make an impact in the consumer packaged goods and grocery retail industry with our unique approach to software solutions. Our hope is to integrate both brand and retailer goals by combining multi-stream marketing with Orases’ innovative technology platforms.

The expansion into consumer packaged goods marketing coincides with the opening of a satellite office in Tampa, Florida and an increased presence in the southeastern United States.

Q: What is something about your company that people might not know about?

A: At Orases we have a company mantra. It is “I am because we are. One team.” The motto affirms our belief that we are all on the same team, and that whether we succeed or fall short, we do it together.

As CEO, I do many things to make sure that I continually demonstrate commitment to that mantra, starting with the moment a team member is hired. One of the first phone calls they will receive is from me. I call to ask what brought them to Orases and what they hope to get out of their time with our company.

In the conversation, I tell them about my passion for the work we do and how my wife and I built Orases from the ground up over the past 22 years. I want to know about their kids, their pets, and everything in between because part of being on the same team is feeling valued as a person first, and not simply a job title or function.

Conversations like that demonstrate the culture we want to have at Orases, and are a huge part of why we are consistently recognized as one of the best places to work.
