Below is our recent interview with Angelos Vlasopoulos, Chief Executive Officer at RealTerm Energy:

Q: What is RealTerm Energy?

A: RealTerm Energy is a North American leader in smart lighting, smart city and smart building solutions for the municipal, university, school and hospital markets. In partnership with our clients, we help them increase savings, reduce energy consumption, and lower their carbon footprint while increasing public safety and health, and citizen quality of life. Over 350 towns and cities across North America have trusted us to upgrade their obsolete and costly lighting to Smart capable and efficient LEDs.

We are also the official reseller of BrainBox AI technology for the municipal, university, school and hospital markets. This fully autonomous self-adaptive AI technology enhances existing HVAC systems to maximize energy savings, reduce carbon emissions and improve occupant comfort.

Q: Any highlights on your recent announcement?

A: RealTerm Energy has recently been awarded the Energy Innovation Grant from the Public Service Commission (PSC) of Wisconsin Office of Energy Innovation in partnership with four Wisconsin school districts to provide BrainBox AI technology to help automate their HVAC operations. For public K-12 school districts, energy bills are the second largest expense following teacher salaries, totaling up to about $8 billion per year. This will create a unique opportunity for four school districts to reduce energy costs, lower their carbon footprint, and provide healthier classrooms for all.

In addition, school districts can use the money saved by implementing this technology to provide valuable resources towards the education of their students.

Q: Can you give us more insights into your offering?

A: BrainBox AI uses powerful AI technology that directly connects to existing HVAC systems to transform them from reactive to pre-emptive or “self- driving.” It uses deep-learning, neural networks to create a unique building energy profile that predicts the temperature of each HVAC zone 2 hours ahead of time with 98% confidence.

BrainBox AI optimizes each piece of equipment to reduce equipment runtime, increase service life, lower maintenance costs, and decrease greenhouse gases. This directly impacts environmental objectives as buildings are one of the largest climate change contributors with HVAC systems accounting up to 45% of their total energy usage.

Q: What can we expect from your company in next 6 months? What are your plans?

A: As a company, we believe we have a responsibility to make a positive contribution to the environment while connecting people in it through smart technology solutions. It’s an exciting time as the U.S. has announced some of the largest climate investments in history. This will provide even more opportunities for RealTerm Energy to continue to support communities across the U.S. to become greener, smarter and more efficient.
