Below is our recent interview with Angus Russell, The Founder at NightCafe:
Q: Could you provide our readers with a brief introduction to your company?
A: NightCafe Creator is an AI-powered art generation app that works on any device. We’ve been around for three years, we’re based in Cairns, Australia; and we’re bootstrapped. The app was originally built by myself, but for the last 9 months my fiancée Elle has been working on it with me.
Q: Any highlights on your recent announcement?
A: We’ve recently launched a new method of AI-powered art creation on our platform. This new method allows you to simply type in a text prompt, and the AI will generate an image based on your text. The results can be really incredible, and our users love it – since the release of the text-to-image art option last month, we’ve processed more creations than in the prior 3 years combined.
Q: Can you give us more insights into your offering?
A: NightCafe offers two ways to create AI-generated art. The first, and original method, is called neural style transfer – you upload a photo and choose a ‘style’ image for the AI to recreate the photo in. The second, more recent addition is text-to-image art, which in AI art circles is referred to as VQGAN+CLIP. This is a combination of two cutting edge, open-source machine learning systems. VQGAN is a generative adversarial neural network that can generate images, and CLIP judges how well an image matches your prompt. The two systems were combined by AI art enthusiasts like Ryan Murdock and Katherine Crowson, and the technique has taken the AI art world by storm.
Q: What can we expect from your company in the next 6 months? What are your plans?
A: We have a big to-do list, but some of the highlights include video generation, integrated AI-powered image upscaling, native apps, and more social features for the app like commenting, following and tagging other users, etc.
Q: What is the best thing about your company that people might not know about?
A: NightCafe has its own subreddit which was created by the Reddit community. It’s a great place to share your creations and discuss AI art with other users. Check it out at Reddit.
