Envisics is a pioneer and inventor of dynamic holographic technologies for true augmented reality displays in vehicles. Below is our recent interview with Dr. Jamieson Christmas, CEO and Founder of Envisics:

Q: Can you tell us something more about your displays and platform?

A: Our displays are a giant leap forward from the traditional display systems that you find in cars today. Envisics’ platform enables true Holography across multiple mobility applications for better control and an enhanced driving experience that improves safety.

Q: You have an interesting background. Can you tell us something more about your previous success?

A: I’ve been fascinated by Holography since I first watched Star Wars. While working at Alps Electric, I had the opportunity to go to Cambridge University and work with some of the leading minds in the space. After graduating with my PhD, I started my first holography company in 2010.

Our first customer was Jaguar Land Rover, which shipped its first vehicle with our technology in 2015 to significant industry accolades and put us directly in the spotlight. Throughout this period, we were able to grow without raising money and were eventually acquired by DAQRI. We ultimately split the company – DAQRI in eyewear and Envisics in automotive – and began the task of developing holographic AR solutions for the automotive industry.

Now, at Envisics, I am excited to have the resources that will enable us to unlock and enable the benefits of true Holography in the automotive space and lay the foundations for others applications beyond transportation. Holography is still at the beginning of its journey, and we look forward to demonstrating its potential.

Q: Can you give us more insights into your products?

A: Traditionally, HUD systems operate more like your typical overhead projector, taking existing images and projecting them into the driver’s field of view. At Envisics, our technology creates an authentic 3D experience where holographic images are overlaid on objects in the real world. We’re not just projecting light, we’re manipulating it to deliver a truly three dimensional experience that will ultimately be indistinguishable from reality itself. As a result, Envisics’ platform streamlines in-car displays and removes unnecessary distractions, paving the way for a future of smarter and safer vehicles.

Q: You’ve recently raised your new funding round; can you tell us something more?

A: We just announced our Series B strategic funding round with an investment of $50m from several highly complementary blue-chip automotive companies, including Hyundai Mobis, GM Ventures, SAIC Capital, and Van Tuyl Companies (VTC). Closing this significant funding round, especially in light of the challenging business climate, is a pivotal moment for Envisics. We’ve are now preparing to scale the organization for future success through key hires in offices across UK, Europe, US and Asia.

Q: What can we expect from Envisics in the next 12 months?

A: As we’ve seen over the past year, a lot can change in 12 months. At Envisics, we’re working hard to bring our products to market and to further expand our relationships with leading automotive companies as we fast-track the development of our next-generation holographic technologies.

Dynamic Holography is still at the beginning of its journey, the technology has significant development potential and we believe it will become a must have across many industries.
