Q: What is First Resonance? For those who have never heard of it, tell us something more?

A: First Resonance is building a Factory Operating System, ion, for the next generation of world-changing hardware companies. Designing, manufacturing, and operating hardware to meet modern timelines and market needs is harder than ever. The ion Factory Operating System allows engineers, manufacturing operators, and hardware materials specialists to coordinate across processes and materials in a way that is very slow, if not impossible, with traditional systems.

Q: What are key features of ion software platform?

A: ion has a powerful API that allows engineers to connect their factory floor equipment into ion. It also has an events engine that allows event-driven manufacturing to keep people in manufacturing operations up-to-date and automated processes working in real-time. This is a huge change for an industry that has had very large information systems but little connectivity and automation. ion’s UX, traceability, and connectivity allow for new types of dynamic workflows.

Q: What’s your revenue model? How are you funded?

A: First Resonance is venture-backed by excellent VCs in Los Angeles and Silicon Valley. We charge per-user per-month on a monthly or annual subscription basis.

Q: How have you attracted engineers and technicians to use ion?

A: ion is very easy to start with. We charge per-user, so companies can try it out on just one factory line or product line and grow into other operations. ion’s ease of use and democratic access to data makes it a choice tool for engineers and technicians who need fast and accurate data available for analysis and to power modern ML/AI workflows.

Q: What can we expect from First Resonance in next six months? What are your plans?

A: First Resonance tripled its customer base in the second half of 2020. You can expect us to triple our customer count by the end of the year, including some of the leading companies in a new wave of aerospace, automotive, and robotics development. We will be growing our team to support development on advanced features, data workflows, and customer success to make ion more powerful for our manufacturing customers and those customers to have to a partner in their Industry 4.0 development.
