Below is our recent interview with Rene Williams from Equal1:

Q: Rene, can you provide our readers with a brief introduction to your company?

A: Equal1 is building desktop-sized quantum computers. Yes…desktop sized.

We do this by building on standard, commercial CMOS semiconductor technology. Equal1 is unique in integrating entire quantum computing systems onto a single chip, which delivers unmatched performance, efficiency and cost of quantum computers. We have already proven our technology in three generations of quantum silicon, software, and hardware.

Q: Any highlights on your recent announcement?

A: Computing performance has always advanced mainly through advances in silicon. Quantum computers will be no different. This is why Equal1 being a top patent holder in silicon quantum computing is critical in the next phase of scaling and commercializing quantum computing.

The ability to utilize existing state-of-the-art semiconductor manufacturing processes for quantum is an area of critical strategic importance as the industry scales to real-world quantum computing.

Q: Can you give us more insights into your offering?

A: When quantum computers are integrated onto a single chip—Quantum-on-Chip—it changes the rules when it comes to deploying quantum computers. This is why, unlike other quantum technologies that require a dedicated computing and cooling infrastructure, Equal1 computers integrate into standard rack configurations, enabling on-premise and Cloud deployment. And Equal1 computers are 130X smaller than competing quantum technologies, 1,000X smaller than classical HPC computers with equivalent computational performance and require 100X less cooling, translating directly into lower capital and operating costs.

Q: What can we expect from your company in the next six months? What are your plans?

A: We are a very heads-down company. We’ve been that way for the past four years…only lifting our heads when we have something meaningful to share. Stay tuned for more news.
