Below is our recent interview with Carlos Wilson from CivX:

Q: What is CivX?

A: CivX is an easy-to-use mobile app that offers an intuitive and interactive way to discover legislation being proposed by Congress at the federal level. Users can learn about the details of proposed legislation, take a position by swiping, share bills of interest through social media to spread the word and even crowdfund legislation with actual monetary contributions.

Q: Any highlights on your recent announcement?

A: We are very excited to launch the CivX legislation crowdfunding feature, which we believe has the potential to revolutionize the way political contributions are made in the United States. Our first-of-its-kind platform allows users to become de facto lobbyists by having the option to contribute money to either support or oppose the passage of legislation that is introduced in Congress. Politicians eventually receive applicable funds as reelection campaign contributions depending on how they actually vote on the particular legislation that has corresponding crowdfunding (i.e., depending on whether they vote “yea” or “nay” for the actual passage of the legislation). In recent years, it has become all-too-common for important legislation to become stalled in Congress for no proper reason, and we believe our platform can help align interests to ensure that our elected politicians are acting in the best interests of the electorate. We believe our platform can actually democratize the lobbying process.

Q: Can you give us more insights into your offering?

A: The CivX app is available for download on the App Store (for iOS) and on Google Play (for Android). The app has a sleek design and features intuitive “swim lanes” for quick access to content, including featured bills curated by CivX based on trending issues in the news cycle, bizarre bills showcasing unique and interesting legislation on the Congressional docket, new bills introduced in the current month so users can stay on top of recent legislative activity, and more. As the CivX team was building the app, one of the things we found surprising was how frequently we came across actual (serious) pieces of legislation for completely strange topics (e.g., regulating flame throwers)! The other major observation made by the team is the sheer size and volume of the Congressional docket with thousands of individual pieces of legislation. It is also important to note that we intend to be non-partisan, and it is our goal to reach users across the political spectrum.

Q: What can we expect from your company in next 6 months? What are your plans?

A: CivX plans to continue refining the design of the app and building out our brand awareness. It is our hope that we continue gaining new users that find our app to be a useful tool for becoming more informed and active citizens. We also hope to become a tool that is used by politicians to communicate details of important legislation. After all, the app has a feature that allows users to seamlessly share/post CivX bill cards across social media – how great would it be to have actual politicians promoting their work with our app!

Q: What is the best thing about your company that people might not know about?

A: Our founding team is composed of passionate professionals with diverse backgrounds, professional experience and perspectives, and are located across the country. Many members of the founding team grew up in the same home town (Beacon, NY) and decided to band together after many years to build something we think can serve as a valuable resource for our fellow citizens in the United States.
