Below is our recent interview with Johannah Bradley, Senior Director at Avery Products Corporation:

Q: Can you tell us something more about the company and what you do?

A: Avery is a market leader in labeling solutions. Everyone knows us for the effective and efficient solutions we provide for the office professional, but we’re more than just a label company.

We’re constantly developing new technologies and applying extensive research and development to create the absolute best products for our customer’s needs. Not only in the products themselves, but in our revolutionary software that helps users get the most out of our products as well.

Our newest division, Avery Industrial, is all about applying our decades of experience in adhesives and materials to provide solutions for industrial and safety professionals. These award-winning products are beyond the premium paper labels our customers know and love. They extend to durable industrial products engineered to perform in demanding environments.

I head up the industrial division that researches, tests and creates these amazing new products, as well as the sales team that helps bring them to end users as reliable, efficient solutions.

Q: You’ve recently launched a breakthrough in high-performance asset tags; could you tell us something more?

A: A good asset tag needs to be able to withstand daily use, have good print quality for barcode scanning, and stay stuck to whatever is being tagged. That may be easy to achieve with custom-printed metallic asset tags, but custom-printed usually means a custom price tag.

Avery PermaTrack Metallic Asset tags allow customers to achieve the same quality with more efficiency and flexibility than ever before. We’ve developed a glossy metallic finish that looks like it was professionally custom printed but the costs and lead-time are substantially lower.

And it’s not just a pretty metallic finish either. The aluminum within the label helps add to its strength and the labels are rigorously tested to withstand water, chemicals, tears and abrasions.

However, unlike other print-yourself metallic films, there isn’t static buildup during printing, which can lead to unpleasant shocks.

On top of this extraordinary material development, we also eliminate the need for expensive software or graphic designers for creating custom asset tags. Our online barcode generator makes it so easy for users to create asset tags with custom barcodes, serialized numbers, text and graphics.

Q: Can you tell us something more about your products? What makes them unique?

A: R & D is at the heart of every Avery product, because we understand whether you’re in an office or on a job site, you have a job to do. Our labels are engineered to work for you. They’re constructed (and rigorously tested) for durability and performance, but also to flawlessly print across multiple printer brands, different printer technologies and a variety of feeding mechanisms.

The adaptability of Avery Industrial labels makes them easy for people to use in any facility or business – chances are, they already have a printer that will work. There’s no need to invest in additional capital to get started with Avery Industrial labels.

Often people can’t believe that they can print ultra-durable labels themselves, but with Avery you can.

Q: What’s the best thing about Avery Products that people might not know about?

A: We never stop testing and developing new ways to make our labels work for you. Whether it’s the products themselves, or our online design center with thousands of customizable design templates, Avery labels are so much more than just sticky sheets of paper.

Our products are designed, engineered and constructed to reliably work for you in ways that help you achieve your goals, and in the case of Avery Industrial, help you keep your workers safe. Our world-class test lab has over 200 pieces of testing equipment. We have over 140 granted patents, many of which are for label products. Our GHS Wizard software makes it easier for companies to practice chemical safety labeling.

Q: What are your plans for the future?

A: Keep testing and developing. You’ll be seeing even more safety and operations solutions from Avery Industrial, including labels and beyond in the coming years.

We are going to continue to push the envelope with what can be printed on desktop printers and explore new ways to integrate software into systems. The goal is to put more power in your hands with the best labeling tools possible.
