Below is our recent interview with Jessica Jackley, the Founder of Alltruists:

Q: For those who have never heard of it, how would you describe Alltruists?

A: Alltruists is a kid-friendly, at-home volunteer and giving projects, in a subscription box. We inspire kids and parents to make the world better, and then show them how to do it.

90% of people say they want to volunteer more, but finding volunteer opportunities is hard, scheduling them is harder, and if you want to bring kids along too, it is nearly impossible. That’s why I created Alltruists. We give kids and families a way to give back by repackaging the volunteering experience so anyone can participate, anytime, without leaving their living room.

Q: Can you explain to us more how it works?

A: The boxes are delivered every other month, and each is centered on a different theme – from hunger to clean water to climate action and more. Kids are guided through content, activities, and a donation experience, and a proprietary volunteer project, which is where the real magic happens.

There are four main parts to every box experience: kids LEARN about the issue at hand, CONNECT and build empathy with others’ experiences, take ACTion through a special volunteer project designed with incredible nonprofit partners, and GIVE to charity through a $5 donation (included in the box) that kids can direct online.

For instance, in our box on homelessness, kids make a keychain that our nonprofit partner in Mexico gives to families with their very first house key on it. In other box experiences, kids plant trees, give away gently used books, and more.

Q: Who would be your ideal volunteer?

A: One of our core values is that every single person has something to contribute – so, really, an ideal volunteer is simply anyone who wants to try! Unfortunately, kids don’t often get a chance to participate, but they have so much to offer. We’re changing that, making it fun and easy for kids to make a real difference in important issues.

Q: What’s your revenue model? How are you funded?

A: We cover our costs thanks to the people who support our work by purchasing subscriptions on www.alltruists.com

Q: What can we expect from Alltruists in next 12 months?

A: We launched in mid-March and are already seeing such great buzz around our offering. We know that parents are twice as likely to volunteer as non-parents, so we are excited to offer an easy, fun, and engaging way to include kids in the process.

The first box is available for order now on our website, arriving in homes June 2021, and will focus on homelessness.
